Dalhousie is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh with unparallel scenic treasures. It is built on and around five hills enveloped by a thick layer of snow at the peaks and lush green belts on the base. Dalhousie is located on the western edge of the Himalayan mountain range. The peak seasons of tourists pouring in this Himachal region starts from the month of May and goes on till September. Horse riding, golf and strolling are some of the added attractions the tourists can enjoy in Dalhousie.
The very renowned Chamba District in Dalhousie, harbors in it many ancient cultural remains of the Hindu ethnicity. These include fine works in art, culture and temples architecture. Like other British hill stations, Dalhousie also boasts of refined works in Scottish and Victorian Architectures in its bungalows and churches.
The rivers Ravi and Chenab originates from the womb of Dalhousie's valleys. There are various water springs in this region believed to have medicinal properties. Many trekking routes over Dhauladhar ranges of Dalhousie present a test to the trekkers. Kala top and Khaijjer are the famous wild life shelters in this region.
Gandhi Chowk is the central area of The Mall, having the important buildings, post office and restaurants along with a small Tibetan market selling handicrafts. Subhash Chowk is at the top end of the Sadar Bazaar and has many eating joints. There are some hairpin tracks on the main road into the forested slopes, with bright rock paintings.
South of Gandhi Chowk is a pleasant walk to Panchpulla next to a small mountain stream swept by five bridges.the water of the stream is believed to have high mica content and can cure several ailments.
Just over a kilometre from Gandhi Chowk is the Subhash Baoli, amountain spring with splendid views of the surrounding peaks. Stones throw away is the old Chamba palace of Jhandri Ghat set amidst tall pine forests; the palace has now been converted into a hotel.
Summers are fairly pleasant in Dalhousie, with temperatures ranging from 12° C to 25° C. Winters are extremely cold, with temperatures dipping as low as 2° C to 10° C. one can experience snow during the winter in Dalhousie, while summers are pleasantly nippy. April to October would be the best time to spend a holiday in Dalhousie.
