The capital of Himachal Pradesh, Shimla was once the most liked tourist destination of the British Empire in India. Christ Church is situated on the Ridge. It is the second oldest church in Northern India and has a royal appearance with beautiful stained glass windows.
Shimla State Museum was opened in 1974 presents the cultural wealth of the state. There are collections of miniature paintings, sculptures, bronzes woodcarvings and also costumes, textiles and jewellery of the region.
Indian Institute of Advanced Studies is housed in the Vice regal Lodge, was built during the British times. It has spacious gardens and is looped by beautiful pine trees.
Kufri is 16 kms from Shimla at a height of 8,600 ft. it is the winter sports capital of India. During the winters, visitors have the facility for skiing here. The skiing season is at its best during January and February.
Chail is a little hilly region, 45 km's from Shimla. It was the summer capital of the Maharaja of Patiala before Independence. The forests near Chail have various species of birds and deer. Chail has the highest cricket ground in the world.
