The Himalayas regions are truly pious and unadulterated, as it constitutes the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites. One such holy site is called Yamunotri. Yamunotri is the origin of the sacred river Yamuna. Yamunotri in Uttar Pradesh is famous for its thermal springs and glaciers. it is also one of the most significant stopovers on the route of the Hindu pilgrim. According to an old legend, Asit Muni, the respected wise man, used to reside here.
Yamunotri is located in the Uttarkashi district of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
The hot springs in Yamunotri are the most visited sites. Devotees offer rice and potatoes at the shrine, by dipping them in these hot water springs, tied in cloth.
Yamunotri Temple is the main temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Maharani Guleria of Jaipur built the present temple in the late nineteenth century. Once destroyed by an earthquake, it has been rebuilt. The temple is approachable by road. However, the route is little away from the normal pilgrimage route. Passing through many lakes like Dodital , Ruinsara Lake and Yamunotri Pass, the trek to Yamunotri becomes an adventure pilgrimage. The trek route passes through many high elevation meadows and passes offering excellent view of Swargarohini group of mountains.
Surya Kund is one of the important thermal springs known for its very high temperature of 190°F. Pilgrims cook rice and potatoes here to offer to the deity in the temple. Divya Shila is a huge rock pillar venerated before entering the Yamunotri Temple.
Hanumanchatti is the convergence of Ganga and Yamuna rivers forms the starting point for the scenic Dodi TaL Sayanachatti is a lovely location down the banks of river Yamuna is a pretty sight.Chamba is a nice-looking location on Tehri that offers a first rate view of the Himalayan peaks.
It remains cool even during summers. The winters are snow-bound and temperatures fall below 0°C. One is advised to carry light or heavy woolens depending on the time of visit.
